Tonight at 6:45 p.m. ET on ESPN, the No. 10-ranked Oregon Ducks (10-2, 7-2) who at one time seemed like good bets to reach the BCS National Championship Game, will instead try to ramp up their intensity for the Valero Alamo Bowl, a difficult game due to being in Texas, and facing the Longhorns (8-4, 7-2). Live stream the game for free here. Oregon fans can catch the radio broadcast on Sports 750 The Game, while Texas fans can do the same on 98.1 FM KVET.
Emotions may run high tonight, as Mack Brown will be on the Longhorns sideline for the final time. "The standard is really high here," Brown, who is second all-time in Texas history with 158 wins, said. "We set a standard at this place. You'd better win all of them. I understand that. ... The standard is really high here and I'm proud of being part of setting that standard.
"I sincerely want to get back to the top and that's why I'm stepping down after the bowl game. I hope with some new energy, we can get this thing rolling again."
Brown's future was a topic of conversation throughout the season, and one that appeared to be a big distraction. Even after the regular season ended Brown seemed like he was waffling back and forth, with reports coming out almost daily that he was upset with how Texas leadership was handling his situation.
"I felt like I could stay," Brown said. "I really felt like it wasn't best for the university to stay. It's been a wonderful ride. Now, the program is again being pulled in different directions, and I think the time is right for a change."
Texas will probably play their hardest to send Brown off with a win, but all the effort in the world may not be enough to contain Marcus Mariota, one of the nation's elite quarterbacks. This year Mariota threw for 3,412 yards and 30 touchdowns, while only getting intercepted four times.
Despite having loftier goals, the Ducks are saying they will come to play tonight. "Everyone's been dogging us, and we have a lot to prove," receiver Bralon Addison told the school's official website. "I think we will be ready for this game, and I think we have a lot to took forward to."
