Oscar Pistorius Case Controversy: Reeva Steenkamp Murder Evidence Kept In Cop's Office Instead Of Secure Room, Officer Resigns? [VIDEO]

There has been a strange twist involving the case against Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius, once fondly called the "Blade Runner" because of his blade-like prosthetic legs, but is now more often referred to as murder suspect.

Pistorius is currently on trial in South Africa, accused of killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in a rage by shooting her through the bathroom door while she hid from him. Pistorius has countered by saying he thought an intruder had broken into his home, and he fired through the door in fear before painfully realizing what he'd done.

According to reports, the head of police who was in charge of the Steenkamp murder scene, Schoombie van Rensburg, has resigned from his post after bizarrely keeping the door Pistorius shot through in his office for a week rather than storing it in a secure evidence room.

According to mirror.co.uk, a Boschkop police source said, "Records show it was booked into the storeroom, but it was kept inside Van Rensburg's office. It was actually lying on the floor in front of his desk and only taken away about a week later." The source also said anyone in the police station had very easy access to that door in the time it was kept in the unemployed cop's office.

Pistorius is charged with premeditated murder, and the prosecution has testimony of neighbors who say they heard Steenkamp screaming, followed by Pistorius' gunshots, which preceded more screaming. Pistorius was also charged with illegal possession of ammunition.

"The deceased was wounded and died on the scene," a court document says. "The cause of death is given in the post-mortem report as multiple gunshot wounds. Some of the state witnesses heard a woman scream, followed by moments of silence, then heard gunshots and then more screaming."

In his most recent appearance before the court Pistorius stuck to his story of believing Steenkamp was an intruder that he fired upon because he was wearing less mobile stumps on his legs.
