Today at 4:05 p.m. ET, the New York Jets (6-7) and Carolina Panthers (9-4) go head-to-head live from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The game can be live streamed here. New York fans can hear all of the action on 98.7 ESPN Radio while Carolina fans can do the same on WBT 1110.
The Panthers are coming off of a tough loss to the New Orleans Saints and ahead of facing their division foes again next week, they'll look to go through the Jets while hoping to stay in the hunt for the NFC South title. New York enters play with slim playoff hopes but will be looking to keep their AFC wild-card aspirations alive.
Carolina's eight-game winning streak was snapped in the 31-10 loss to the Saints.
"I feel like we did get a little ahead of ourselves as far as feeling good," defensive end Greg Hardy said per ESPN. "It happens to the best of us. When you get something that you really deserve it gives you a great feeling and you get kind of comfortable in a sense -- not really complacent or content, but kind of comfortable."
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is 248-for-400 (62.0%) for 2,776 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while he's also rushed for 495 yards on 88 carries while reaching the end zone six times. Newton has led Carolina to five straight home wins.
"It's a great opportunity to go out and really prove to ourselves who we are," Newton said, according to ESPN.
The Jets are coming off of a 37-27 victory over the Oakland Raiders last Sunday that kept their slim playoff hopes alive.
"Every game's a playoff game for us, man," rookie defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson said, according to ESPN. "That's how we have to look at it."
Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith has had his struggles but has remained confident. Smith is 195-for-352 (55.4%) for 2,475 yards with nine touchdowns but is tied for the league lead with 20 interceptions. He's also rushed for 230 yards on 46 carries with four scores.
"The spirits are higher, but for me it's the same work week," Smith told ESPN.
The Jets look to keep their slim playoff chances alive while the Panthers will look to stay in the hunt for the NFC South title when these two teams take the field this afternoon.
