The Kansan State Wildcats registered a comprehensive win over the West Virginia Mountaineers 55-14 at a one-sided game Saturday at the Milan-Puskar stadium. The No. 17 Mountaineers did not show any significant resistance.
The No. 4 Wildcats completely dominated the No. 17 Mountaineers in a one-sided match which saw very little resistance from the losing side. Most fans at the stadium were disappointed by their team's unimpressive performance and started leaving.
Collin Klein, the quarterback, was particularly impressive for the Wildcats when he threw 323 yards, his career high, completing 19 of 21 passes with three touchdowns and ran for 41 yards.
The victory looked pretty easy for Kansas State (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) as the Mountaineers never seemed to pose a challenge.
''I think we all felt comfortable tonight. The coaches did a great job of building a game plan and putting us in positions to succeed,'' Klein said.
The Kansas State were able to score on their first 8 possessions, which included 7 straight touchdowns.
Dana Holgorsen, the West Virginia coach, said of Klein, ''He doesn't do anything wrong. He's hard to tackle. He gets them in good plays. He doesn't turn the ball over. You can say what you want to about the throwing motion, but it goes exactly where he wants it go. He's a good football player.''
The Mountaineers' defense looked awful throughout the game (5-2, 2-2). In fact, it has been this way for the entire season. They failed to come up with any effective game plan.
''We talked about it all week. Don't get impatient. Don't get impatient. You have the ball a couple of times and you look up there and you're down 17 points and you start pressing. It's inevitable. We're trying to score 14 points in one play,'' Holgorsen added.
With just 2:25 minutes remaining in the third quarter, The Wildcats made it 52-7 when Klein hit Lockett for a 20-yard score. It was the fourth occasion this season where Kansas State had scored in the 50s.
Bill Snyder, the head coach of the Kansas State team said, ''I was certainly pleased with the way that our youngsters approached the ballgame, the preparation for the game and how they traveled. I was proud of how they kept their focus. We played great.''
The defense for the Wildcats was just as good as their offense.
Snyder supported his team's defense saying, ''I thought our defense played well and played aggressive and pursued the ball. We had a relentless pass rush and we got our hands on Geno Smith.''
The Kansas State are the only unbeaten team in the Big 12. The team is shaping up perfectly and with just five games remaining, the Wildcats are favorites to win the national title this season.
