Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray has emerged as one of the best playoff performers in the league today, proving to be a crucial asset as the team secured their first championship in franchise history in 2023.

Drafted by the Nuggets in the 2016 NBA draft as the seventh overall pick, Murray has created an exceptional chemistry with the reigning NBA Finals MVP, Nikola Jokic, establishing them as one of the best duos in the league.

Let's look into the details of Jamal Murray's contract, career earnings, and salary.

Jamal Murray Contract: $170 million

During the summer of 2019, Murray reached an agreement on a maximum contract extension with the Nuggets, amounting to $170 million over five years. The deal was finalized on the first day of free agency of that year.

The contract spans from the 2020-21 season to the 2024-25 season and does not include any player or team options.

Before securing his current max deal, Murray was under his rookie scale deal and signed with the Nuggets upon being drafted in 2016. This initial contract was valued at $14.5 million, providing him with an average annual salary of $6.5 million in the first four seasons of his professional career.

Murray would be eligible for a supermax extension if he is named to an All-NBA team in the 2023-24 season. This type of extension is valued at 35 percent of the salary cap, potentially leading to a significant increase in his earnings.

Jamal Murray Career Earnings

After the 2023-24 NBA season, Murray is projected to have amassed $136.4 million solely from his NBA salary over his first eight seasons in the league, as reported by Spotrac.

This calculation excludes potential income from off-court ventures like endorsements and partnerships. Additionally, the mentioned amount does not account for deductions such as taxes, agent fees, or other related business expenses.

Upon the conclusion of his current contract after the 2024-25 NBA season, the 2017 NBA All-Rookie Second Team member is expected to have accumulated career earnings surpassing $172.4 million.

Jamal Murray Salary 2023-24

In the ongoing 2023-24 NBA season, Murray is slated to earn $33.8 million, according to HoopsHype.

This positions him as the second-highest-paid player on the Denver Nuggets roster, trailing Nikola Jokic, and ranks him as the 33rd-highest-paid player across the entire league for the current campaign.

During the Nuggets' championship-winning campaign in 2022-23, Murray earned $31.65 million. Looking ahead, he is expected to earn slightly more than $36 million in the final year of his current deal next season.

Murray opted not to sign a three-year, $144 million extension with the Denver Nuggets during the 2023 offseason, despite being eligible.

However, Nuggets general manager Calvin Booth believes that Murray might be aiming to maximize his earnings, as waiting could potentially result in a more lucrative payday for the lethal scorer, who will be either 27 or 28 years old when he eventually inks his next pact.
