At 1:00 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens (6-6) have worked their way back into serious playoff contention and will host the NFC cellar-dwelling Minnesota Vikings (3-9) as they try to continue that march. "We are position to control our own destiny," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "That is what you try to accomplish going into December. Now it's up to us to make the most of it. We just have to win. If we win games, things are going to work out for us."
Baltimore's had its ups and downs, especially on offense, but this game is a must-win with their remaining schedule pitting them exclusively against division-leading teams. "You definitely are a product of your experiences, and adversity is definitely a strength builder, a character builder," Harbaugh said. "What we've been through has made us what we are right now. I'd like to think it's made us strong emotionally, mentally. And I think our hard work has made us strong physically."
The Ravens tend to be at their best when Ray Rice and the running game can help open up passing lanes for Joe Flacco. Rice has only rushed for 482 yards and four scores in 2013, but the Vikings' porous run defense may provide an opportunity to get on track.
The Vikings, on the other hand, have not had any issues running the ball. Peterson has chewed up 1,208 yards on the ground and scored 10 touchdowns. While their postseason prospects are nil, Minnesota isn't going to lay down for the rest of the season.
"You have got to believe, you can't tuck your tail and run, you can't give up no matter how it looks you have to continue to fight," said Peterson. "That's one thing that we have done all year; I haven't seen guys quit. When I look in their eyes there is fight there."
