Today at 12:30 p.m. ET the Detroit Lions (6-5) will take the turf at Ford Field in their traditional role of opening up Thanksgiving's slate of games. They will face an NFC North rival, the Green Bay Packers (5-5-1) who are battling for their own playoff lives. Watch the game on Fox or live stream it by clicking this link. Lions fans can listen to the game on 97.1 FM The Ticket, while Packers fans can hear the Turkey Day game on WTMJ-AM 620.
The Packers will be without star quarterback Aaron Rodgers yet again, and will turn to Matt Flynn against Detroit's vicious defensive line.
"I've been hitting the playbook hard and studying, and asking a lot of questions from Aaron, all the receivers, linemen -- how they want things called, and how they want the operation to go," Flynn said. "So I feel good."
Flynn believes his prior experience working with head coach Mike McCarthy's offense has him firing on all cylinders leading into this matchup. "You know, I'm light years ahead of where I would be three weeks into any other system obviously because of the time I spent here."
Detroit has been unable to take advantage of quarterback injuries to every team in their division, but refuse to hang their heads.
"I think we all need to remind ourselves, like we did yesterday, that the fact is that there's five games remaining, and we're in first place," Detroit coach Jim Schwartz said Monday. "We need to conduct ourselves accordingly, and we can't worry what happened last week, we can't worry about what happened yesterday. We need to worry about what's going to happen in the future. I like our team's mindset."
Still, hints of dissension, or at least players on different pages exist. Running back Reggie Bush suggested a players-only meeting may be in order after last week's loss to the Buccaneers, but quarterback Matthew Stafford differed.
"I don't think it's necessary," Stafford said. "This is a team I've been around for a while, and we have strong leaders on this team. We can get it taken care of just in individual groups. We've got leaders at every position, and guys know what it takes to win in this league."
