Will Ferrell Anchorman 2 Trailer: Comedian To Guest Host ESPN's SportsCenter, Playing Part of the Show as Ron Burgundy

Ron Burgundy's return to the mainstream media continues to build momentum. And his movie still won't come out for another four weeks.

TheBigLead.com is reporting that Will Ferrell will guest-host ESPN's 6 p.m. (Eastern Time) SportsCenter on Dec. 5. It said two sources confirmed Ferrell's appearance but spoke on the condition of anonymity because Ferrell's appearance has not been announced.

Ferrell has been active in reprising his role as Ron Burgundy, the lead character in Ferrell's upcoming movie, "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues." He has appeared in several commercials as Burgundy.

The most interesting aspect of the report indicated that the sources said a "Ron Burgundy element" will be included in the telecast. That Ferrell wouldn't either do the entire show as Burgundy seems, well, out of character.

Ferrell would be ESPN's third celebrity SportsCenter anchor in the past five weeks. Actor Ken Jeong and NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson did guest stints.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz declined comment to TheBigLead.com, but the sources told the website that the celebrity guest-host appearances would not become routine. However, TheBigLead.com reported, a successful Ferrell outing certainly would make more actors consider pitching an appearance to the Worldwide Leader in Sports as a promotional appearance.

Billy Crystal started the celebrity-as-anchor trend with an appearance on SportsCenter on Dec. 19, 2012.

If the celebrities' stints keep spiking the ESPN ratings, the sports network almost certainly would look at continuing the appearances.

The debut of an A-list actor with the name-recognition of Farrell figures to be a boost to the show's ratings.
