49ERS vs REDSKINS Watch Live Stream FREE Online & Listen: Monday Night Football Week 12 Live Coverage from FedEx Field Washington

Tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET the San Francisco 49ers (6-4) will travel to Washington D.C. to take on the reeling Redskins (3-7) at FedEx Field on ESPN, in a Week 12 edition of Monday Night Football. NFL matchmakers likely pegged this game as a scintillating battle between the NFL's two most exciting quarterbacks, Colin Kaepernick (49ers) and Robert Griffin III (Redskins). Both quarterbacks are mobile, with cannons for right arms. This year, though, Kaepernick's passing has been invisible, while Griffin's deep inaccuracy has gotten exposed, and his leadership questioned.

Kaepernick's ineffectiveness through the air has been shocking, and the 49ers have failed to utilize him consistently in the read-option. "I think we are (surprised) but we still have six more to go," Kaepernick said. "And we can still finish this season 12-4."

While Kaepernick's issues can be attributed to tight end Vernon Davis' various injuries, and the absence of big-play wide receivers Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham, Griffin's issues have been both on and off the field. Following last week's loss to the Eagles, many perceived comments about the Eagles "knowing what was coming" as a slight to the Washington coaching staff.

"I feel like for myself, moving forward, I have to be more wary of the hostility," Griffin said. "I was trying to give a compliment to Philadelphia's defense and it was taken as a shot against my coaches. It wasn't."

Tonight's game could be especially big for head coach Mike Shanahan, who may be on the hot seat following the team's big step back from a playoff berth one season ago. Shanahan is preaching patience as the team continues to improve its roster.

"In the future it will get better," Shanahan said, "because we do have the ability to get more depth, we've got the ability to add some players on both sides of the football, and that gives you a chance to get better as a football team."
