The Washington Wizards have been the best team in the league since Jan. 1, and are just 1 ½ games behind the no. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference after a rough start to the season. But there remain tons of basketball to be played this season, John Wall recently revealed that former Kentucky Wildcats teammate DeMarcus Cousins told him before being traded that he would come to D.C. to join the All-Star point guard.

John Wall revealed the interesting tidbit in an interview with The Undefeated’s Marc Spears. “I talked to him, he said he would come to D.C., but he didn’t know what was going to happen,” Wall said. The Washington Wizards were on the trade market in February, in desperate search for some bench help, although Wall did not say if the Wizards were actively pursuing DeMarcus Cousins.

As noted by CBS Sports, DeMarcus Cousins will be in a contract year next season, which brings the possibility of the New Orleans Pelicans trading the volatile big man if they fail to make the pairing with Anthony Davis work, as they could lose him for nothing the following season. Curiously, before the Washington Wizards turned their season around, there were reports that Kentucky teammates John Wall, Cousins and Eric Bledsoe had discussed the possibility of teaming up in Phoenix.

But while the prospect of adding DeMarcus Cousins’ talents to the Washington Wizards’ superb backcourt would make any D.C. sports fan salivate, the more exciting fact is that this is the best season the Washington Wizards have had in a while, and looks to be the year John Wall finally makes it past the second round. Wall and Bradley Beal appear to have real chemistry on the court after rumors of a rift between the two surfaced in previous years.
