UCLA Guard Lonzo Ball’s Dad LaVar Believes His Son Is Better Than Steph Curry, Then Slams Charles Barkley For Criticizing His Remarks; Curry’s Reply Classy As Ever

Looks like LaVar Ball had the chicken in his hands before it's even hatched.

The father of UCLA star point guard Lonzo Ball came out firing when he was interviewed about how he sees the future of his son. Turning 20 years old this year, his dad likes to think that the Bruins' playmaker is even better than the two-time MVP Stephen Curry.

FS1's The Undisputed had the outspoken older Ball on their show and asked if he went a little overboard with his comments that the 19-year old Lonzo isn't at the same level as the player who was named as the best player in the planet twice. In the recorded interview posted on their Twitter handle @undisputed, he stood firm about his statements.

"On the fact that I have the utmost confidence in what my son does. And just because I say he's better than somebody, who cares?," LaVar said. "I believe it. So I don't care what nobody else says. You can judge on your own."

He also added that the uttermost confidence that he has in his son is due to Lonzo being a proven winner wherever he play. In the transcribed interview from Uproxx, the older Ball said that Lonzo was the best player in high school and is the best player in college, believing that there's no way that the best of both worlds will end up as an average player once he makes it to the big league. He also insisted that he does not hate Steph Curry, he is just saying that everybody is entitled for an opinion and his opinion is just his.

The 6-foot-6 Lonzo was named AP Pac-12 Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year as reported by Boston.com. He was named alongside Arizona State's coach Sean Miller, who has his own project in the 7-foot Lauri Markkanen from Finland, as the best tactician. The only dampener would be CBS Sports' rankings where they have him third in the race behind Purdue's Caleb Swanigan and Kansas' Frank Mason.

Whether he is just increasing Lonzo's stock in the draft or not, LaVar just wanted to make the people know what to expect once he declares for this year's NBA draft and get his name called.

He also took a jab on NBA legend Charles Barkley, who criticized him for his remarks. Barkley said that a dad can be proud of his son but it can become stupidity at some point, backing up Steph in the process as published by Bleacher Report.

Being regarded as one of the best forwards to play the game, LaVar knew where to his the now TNT commentator. "If Charles thought like me, maybe he'd win a Championship," retaliated LaVar, who played college basketball and football himself.

Looks like Chuck isn't entitled to voice out his opinion.

Asked by For The Win, Steph had nothing but good things to say about the father and his sons. "I don't want to talk about that. I wish his kids the best and I know they'll be great NBA players. That's their job," said the former Davidson College standout. "Every person should parent their kid as they feel they should," added the son of former NBA star Dell Curry.
