Dwyane Wade: NBA superstar and TV sitcom creator?
The veteran guard and three-time NBA champion of the Miami Heat has sold a comedy series to FOX, Variety just announced.
According to Variety, Fox has green lighted a series from Mike Tollin, Wade and Sony Pictures Television titled "Three the Hard Way," based on Wade's life as a single dad.
The show is inspired by Wade's book, "A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball," in which he talks about parenting his two sons and recounting his own growing-up years and rise to the NBA elite.
Variety reported that "Wade (whose Twitter account is headed by the word 'Three') will exec produce with Tollin and Mandalay Sports Media, as well as Justin Lin, Danielle Woodrow and Troy Craig Poon of Perfect Storm Entertainment."
Wade already has Hollywood ties in his longtime relationship with actress Gabrielle Union.
What does this mean for his NBA career? The 31-year-old barely made it through the 2012-13 season with a list of injuries as the Heat won their second consecutive championship and third since Wade has been part of the organization.
The 11-year veteran returned to the team this season and is playing 33 minutes per game, which matches his lowest total in his previous 10 years. His 16.7 points-per-game average currently is the second lowest of his career, next to his rookie season of 16.2.
With Wade branching out, how much longer will he subject his aching knees to the pounding of an 82-game season plus the playoffs? If LeBron James decides to stay with the team beyond this season, Miami figures to be a championship contender for years to come.
James also is moonlighting as a TV producer, collaborating with business partner Maverick Carter and producer Tom Werner on a project about two people leaving "the hood" and finding fame.
