iOS 10.2.1 Can't Be Downgraded To iOS 10.2: Apple Stopped Signing Code For Older iOS Version

Apple released the latest iOS 10.2.1 on January 23. This iPhone update includes bug fixes and security patches. This Monday, company stopped signing code for iOS 10.2, prohibiting users to downgrade their devices to the older operating system.

The previous version of iOS is no longer available to consumers who updated their devices already. As written in Mac Rumors, Apple routinely stops signing older versions of software updates after new releases come out to encourage customers to stay up to date.

Now, users can install the only version of iOS 10, iOS 10.2.1 but developers and beta testers can download iOS 10.3 as well. iOS 10.3 is currently in beta test mode and will be available after that.

Apart from iOS 10.2, Apple has also stopped signing tvOS 10.1 as tvOS 10.1.1 is now available. Apple wants people to keep their devices up to date to shield from bugs and security vulnerabilities.

Apart from user protection, the company wants to maintain a consistent user experience across every device. Apple introduced redesigned emoji characters and new TV app in last major update, iOS 10.2.

New update, iOS 10.3 will deliver a new feature called "Find My AirPods" to protect wireless headphones introduced by Apple during the WWDC 2016. There will be an implementation of Apple's new AFPS file system as well.

There are some new problems associated with iOS 10.2.1 according to Forbes. Three of the most significant problems are that it is breaking Touch ID for a number of iPhone owners, there is a screen brightness bug and it creates Bluetooth connection problems, particularly when connecting to car kits.

Touch ID and Bluetooth connection problem could be solved by downgrading to iOS 10.2 but now that it is not possible, users are stuck. They no longer have the escape route and they have to compromise either with security or with this problems.

Meanwhile, users who face these problems are eagerly waiting for the next major update iOS 10.3. Apple iPhone users who updated their devices have to use iOS 10.2.1 compulsorily.
