The Cleveland Cavaliers have all the reason to be happy at this moment. They are currently at the top spot of the Eastern Conference standings holding a 28-10 win-loss record and looks to continue to hold that position until the playoffs began. But recent reports are saying that Jameer Nelson could be a potential backup to Kyrie Irving for them.

After their acquisition of Kyle Korver from the Atlanta Hawks, the fully stacked Cavs roster became more formidable with his arrival. However, LeBron James earlier stated that there are still many things that need to be done and one of those is to fill up a spot that looks to be vulnerable. And he is pointing to the point guard position where a backup PG is badly needed.

And now, one report is suggesting that the Cavaliers should be considering Nelson as a possible backup PG for them. According to King James Gospel, Jameer Nelson is one viable choice for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He is a veteran playmaker that has proven that he can stabilize the backcourt of any team in the league.

Nelson is also one of the players, aside from Kyle Korver and Channing Frye, that has been on the radar for the Cavs for a long time as per stated in the report. And getting him right now could be the perfect time for them while he is still playing at a high-level. The Cavaliers will surely benefit to Nelson's decent outside shooting (38.3% from the three-point area).

FOXSports also pointed out the Nelson is an ideal target for the Cavs. Since Jamaal Murray and Emmanuel Mudiay are getting accustomed to alternating the playmaking chores for the Denver Nuggets, it makes sense to trade Jameer Nelson for the Nuggets and get a valuable asset in return.

Nelson will greatly aid the second unit of the Cavaliers and he can be acquired at a low price as per stated in the report. And consequently, he will be a perfect backup for Kyrie Irving and give some defensive presence in the backcourt.

Will the Cleveland Cavaliers be able to acquire Jameer Nelson and give Kyrie Irving some help in the backcourt?
