This week's college football slate kicks off with a bang as Pac-12 superpowers No. 3 Oregon (8-0) and No. 5 Stanford (7-1) will go head-to-head in California at Stanford Stadium at 9:00 p.m. ET. Watch the game on ESPN or live stream it here for free. Ducks fans can listen to the radio broadcast on Sports 750 The Game, while Stanford fans can tune in to KNBR AM 1050.
The Ducks are putting up over 55 points a game this season, with Marcus Mariota leading the way. In eight games Mariota has amassed 2,281 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air without tossing a single interception. On the ground he's done damage as well, rushing 56 times for 511 yards and nine scores.
When asked if they had anyone to mimic Mariota in practice, Stanford coach David Shaw jokingly said, "We have to sign somebody."
Shaw went on to heap praise upon Mariota, perhaps in an attempt to lull him into complacency. "I thought last year he was the best quarterback in the nation, and I feel the same way this year," Shaw said.
"I don't care about stats. Stats don't mean anything. You watch the film, you see a kid that makes every throw. Every throw is accurate. Twenty touchdowns and no interceptions? Every ball is perfect, every ball is in stride, every ball there's no wobble on it. Everything's pretty."
Linebacker A.J. Tarpley believes Stanford can curtail Mariota enough that the Cardinal can emerge victorious. "We want to try and mix it up a little bit, whether that's attacking him, try to show something that looks like something but it's actually something else. We'll mix it up. We don't want them to get in their rhythm. Because once they do that, you can't stop them."
When reminded that Mariota's yet to be intercepted this season, Cardinal corner Alex Carter said, "It's time for him to throw one."
