Noah Syndergaard's amazin' performance for the Mets was followed by perhaps an even better one on Twitter.
Thor was dominant on Wednesday against the Pirates in helping New York snap a three-game skid with an 11-2 drubbing of the Pirates.
Syndergaard, 23, pitched into the ninth inning for the first time in his career, and though he faltered and couldn't pitch a complete game, he finished with 11 strikeouts over 8 1/3 innings, while yielding just two runs (one earned) on five hits with no walks in the outing.
One place where the young flame thrower didn't do well, however, was at the dish. Syndergaard, who thrashed two homers in one game back in May against the Dodgers, finished Thursday 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
His teammates picked him up, however, notching a season-high 19 hits for their most dominant pitcher.
He carried a shutout into the ninth before giving up a run and being replaced by closer Jeurys Familia. After the dominant outing, Syndergaard took to Twitter to apologize for his ineptness in the batter's box, while sharing some other true to life observations:
Couple Things:
1. Winning is way better than losing
2. I apologize for my poor offensive performance
3. I will not be running 4 President— Noah Syndergaard (@Noahsyndergaard) June 16, 2016
Syndergaard, who was the only player in the Mets' starting lineup to not record a hit, set down 17 Pirates in order following John Jaso's single to lead off the game on the first pitch.
The Mets starter improved to 7-2 on the season with a 1.91 ERA that ranks tied for fourth in the MLB. He's also in sole possession of fourth place in the majors in WHIP with a 0.96 mark.
Though he was in a light-hearted mood on Twitter after the game, Syndergaard was visibly upset with himself for not getting through the ninth inning.
The right-hander even lamented giving up a lead-off double in the final frame to Jaso, which was his third hit of the game, and the following RBI double to pinch-hitting David Freese that cost him the shutout.
"I was kind of not very satisfied with myself after not being able to complete that game," Syndergaard told ESPN. "But it was still a lot of fun to be a part of. The offense really came alive. It makes my job easier out there."
He may have failed in his pursuit of getting all 27 outs, but Syndergaard's social media game remains complete.
