The Chiefs are off to the second best start in franchise history thanks in large part to its special teams and defense, while the Texans have been struggling with turnovers all season long entering this contest.
The Texans will try to avoid their first five-game losing streak in nearly eight years when they send out third-string quarterback Case Keenum in place of injured and much maligned quarterback Matt Schaub, who has thrown nine interceptions compared to eight touchdowns this season.
ESPN reports that defense and special teams have accounted for 41.9% of Kansas City's scoring so far this year, something head coach Andy Reid is proud of.
"It's something we talked about from Day 1, the scoring. There's equal opportunity in all three phases," Reid told ESPN. "We wanted everybody to have their chance to score a touchdown."
Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith has gone 122-for-216 (56.5%) for 1,330 yards with seven touchdowns and three picks.
Houston, meanwhile, has allowed 12 turnovers in its last four games--all losses.
"Turnovers get you beat in this league and they're getting us beat on a consistent basis," said coach Gary Kubiak, according to ESPN.
Schaub, who threw nine interceptions over his last five games, was turnover free in Houston's 38-13 home loss to the St. Louis Rams last week, but a third quarter sack knocked him from the game due to right ankle and foot injuries.
T.J. Yates did the turning over last week, throwing two interceptions while going 12-for-17 for 98 yards, leading to Kubiak deciding to go with Keenum.
It'll be a tough test for Keenum, a record-setting quarterback at the University of Houston, as Kansas City leads the league with 31 sacks and he's entering a stadium that set a Guinness Book of World Records mark for noise that reached 137.5 decibels last week.
Both teams boast two of the top running backs in the league with Houston's Arian Foster and Kansas City's Jamaal Charles. Foster has rushed for 531 yards on 117 attempts and has one touchdown while Charles has ran 114 times for 475 yards and five scores.
Kansas City will look to stay unbeaten while Houston tries not to drop five in a row for the first time in nearly eight years when the two go head-to-head this afternoon.
