Tonight at 8:00 p.m., the first matchup between teams ranked inside the top five of the BCS polls will be underway on ESPN. No. 5 Florida State University will travel to Memorial Stadium where they'll square off with No. 3 Clemson. This matchup represents the first time two teams in the Top 5 have faced off in eight years. "It may be the biggest game in ACC history. We don't know," said Tigers defensive end Vic Beasley. "But our goal is to win a national championship."
The Tigers are 6-0 heading into this tilt on their home field, and hell-bent on avenging a stinging loss last season. "Last year they got us, but I feel like we should have won. We're looking for payback," Beasley said.
Clemson represents a formidable challenge to the Seminoles that begins with Heisman Trophy candidate Tajh Boyd, a dual-threat quarterback. This season Boyd has passed for 1,783 yards and 15 touchdowns while tossing just two interceptions. He's also carried the ball 66 times for 587 yards and five scores.
Still, Clemson's aggressive pass rush frightens FSU coach Jimbo Fisher just as much. "I'm trying to get the ACC to give me 13 guys and give me two more linemen so we can block them," Fisher said. "I'm serious, they bring pressure."
The Seminoles have their own Heisman candidate in quarterback Jameis Winston, who is well aware of how badly Clemson wants this game on their home field. "They're after our necks," Winston said. "We beat them at our home field last year. They beat us at their home team the year before that. It's just going back and forth battle."
Clemson would be wise not to sleep on the precocious passer. He's completing passes at a 71 percent clip, and has thrown 17 touchdowns in five games.
