At 4:00 p.m. on Fox today, the Detroit Tigers will try to regain their senses after Boston's dizzying comeback victory in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series at Fenway Park. Today's game will be in Detroit at Comerica park, and can be live streamed here. Red Sox fans can hear the game on WEEI 93.7, while Tigers fans can tune in to 97.1 The Ticket for the radio broadcast.
A loss as devastating as Sunday's can be difficult to overcome; luckily for Detroit, they have their rotational rock on the hill in Justin Verlander. "Obviously that was a tough one," Verlander said. "At the same time you know this series is going to be a dogfight. Nobody is going to walk over anybody."
Closer Joaquin Benoit served up a game-tying grand slam to David Ortiz in the ninth inning, with Boston eventually taking the game 6-5, and leaving their home field with a split. "I made a mistake that I take full responsibility for," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "I should have just reminded him that we didn't want Ortiz to really beat us. He tried to make a great pitch. He tried to get it low and away out of the strike zone, but he didn't get it there."
Still, Detroit left Boston with one win, giving themselves home field advantage now. Red Sox manager John Farrell also admitted the Tigers' strong rotation has been a brutal task to go up against.
"The work of Sanchez and Scherzer has been nothing short of spectacular. ... We feel like tomorrow's starter in Verlander is going to be a similar, if not a more difficult, challenge than what we faced already," Farrell said.
The Red Sox counter Verlander with John Lackey, which is a mismatch on paper. "We've got a great lineup. I'm going into the game with a great group of guys behind me," Lackey said. "Those guys are going to fight him. He's kind of our lineup's problem. I've got my own problems with their lineup."
