Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez have had four memorable clashes, but through them all hard feelings seem to have set in for Marquez. "Dinamita" was bested in two of the first three bouts, and fought to a draw in the first after getting knocked down three times in the first round.
Marquez claims to have been the real winner in the second and third fights, so after finally breaking through in the fourth matchup, emotions are still pouring out of him.
On HBO's 24/7 documenting his training camp for an October clash with Timothy Bradley, Marquez described the feeling of flooring his archrival.
"It was great," Marquez said. "The best thing that's ever happened to me in this sport...I believe in divine justice. This fight is proof it is real. To win the way that I did, it's like God gave me a way to do it. That punch carried the strength of my family. The strength of my entire training. The strength of my entire Mexican fans."
Marquez has said he will not fight Pacquiao again, regardless of the outcome against Bradley on October 12th. When asked about a rematch Marquez said, "I think everybody knows what happened in the last three fights with Pacquiao. I closed the chapter because I knocked him out, and I'll keep the feeling the rest of my life."
Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach took Marquez to task on his stance, saying, "Yeah because the thing is before he won the last fight, he always wanted a rematch and now that it's changed hands, he's satisfied with the win. But the thing is I think we deserve one more shot back. If he doesn't fight us I think he's a [expletive]."
Pacquiao has said repeatedly he'll be gunning for an impressive knockout win against Brandon Rios in Macau, China in November so that his name will once again surface in the Floyd Mayweather conversation.
A fifth fight with Marquez would do well also, but it appears Marquez just isn't playing along.
