One year removed from one of the most tumultuous offseasons in NFL history, the New Orleans Saints (2-0) are resembling their old selves once again with head coach Sean Payton back in the fold. Today at 1:00 p.m. they will face the Arizona Cardinals (1-1) in a game that can be live streamed here. Listen to the Saints broadcast on WWL 870 AM, while Cardinals fans can hear the game on 620 KTAR AM.
In a surprising twist, the New Orleans offense under Payton in 2013 has been slow to heat up, while the normally porous defense has been a major factor in the Saints' success through two games.
"We are flying pretty high as a defense," linebacker Curtis Lofton said. "Last year is last year, that's in the past. This is a new team, new defense, new defensive coordinator, so we moved way past that."
This week though, Payton wants the scoring to get turned up.
"We've got a lot to fix. We've got a ton of football to play," Payton said. "Obviously, we've got to be better at scoring and I've got to do a better job."
Saints quarterback Drew Brees concurred with his coach, saying "We've certainly had some opportunities and just haven't taken advantage of it yet. Eventually, that will bite us if we don't get it fixed."
This could be a good opportunity, as they face a talented Arizona defense that hasn't meshed enough to be productive yet. They've been torched by Sam Bradford and Matthew Stafford already, and Brees is a former league MVP.
Arizona's best hope will be to keep up the pace offensively, which will largely depend on how healthy Larry Fitzgerald is. Fitz is battling a bum hamstring.
