With a slew of big fights coming up, headlines by Saturday's fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao's bout with Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios is flying under the radar a bit.
Hustleboss.com recently caught up with Adrien Broner, the WBA welterweight champion, and asked him what he thought of Pacquiao's scheduled fight with Rios. In response, Broner feigned as if he wasn't sure who those two fighters were. "Who is that?" was Broner's answer to a request for his thoughts on the matchup.
When his interviewer Chris Robinson played along, informing him that Pacquiao was the man most recently knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez, Broner said he's only seen a photograph of the knockout, which he thought had been Photoshopped.
Robinson asked why he believed the photo was doctored, and Broner said "It looked like he was blinking." Robinson then asked Broner if he felt Pacquiao could recover from such a devastating loss, Broner was non-committal.
"You never know what happens man, boxing is crazy," Broner said. "Maybe he could come back stronger, and maybe he could come back not the same. It's up to him. Mentally he's got to overcome that loss. Some people don't know how to take a loss."
Robinson moved on to Broner's thoughts on the Tim Bradley vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight, to which Broner said the names "weren't ringing any bells." Broner then said he only watches two boxers-Floyd Mayweather Jr., and "this one little guy they're saying is going to take over boxing after Floyd. I think his name's Adrien Broner."
Whether or not he's on his way to "taking over boxing" is uncertain, but Broner is definitely moving up the food chain. His next fight against Marcos Maidana, which isn't official yet but has been touted by Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, will be Broner's first pay-per-view appearance.
