Toronto Blue Jays Outfielder and slugger Jose Bautista will not return to the team in 2013.
According to ESPN, the Blue Jays shut down the outfielder for the remainder of the season due to his injured hip. The team made the announcement on its official Twitter account Wednesday, noting that Bautista will be ready for spring training in 2014:

Bautista, who will turn 33 in October, hasn't played since Aug. 20 due to a bone bruise in his hip which has left him out of the team's lineup.
Bautista played in 118 games this season and was batting .259 with 28 homers and 73 RBIs before the injury.

Toronto has had a disappointing season after having a very productive offseason that saw a huge trade with Miami, but with not much to play for the decision to seat Bautista for the rest of the 2013 campaign is probably the right move.
The Blue Jays (64-75) enter Wednesday in dead-last in the American League East, 18.5 games behind the first place Boston Red Sox and 13 games out of the second wildcard spot that is currently held by the team's division-rival Tampa Bay Rays.
In his 10-year career, Bautista has compiled a .254 average with 211 homers and 576 RBIs. In his last four seasons, the four time All-Star has combined for 152 homers and 365 RBIs, and hit a career-high 54 long-balls and 124 RBIs for Toronto in 2010.
