As if you needed proof Cristiano Ronaldo is off limits to all clubs, Florentino Perez announced on Thursday that Real Madrid will not sell him for anything less than his €1 billion buyout clause.
Entering his 30s, Ronaldo was Paris Saint-Germain's No. 1 target in recent months. Madrid reportedly rejected a €150 million bid from the Ligue 1 champions this summer, per El Mundo Deportivo.

A tempting offer, but still €850 million short.
"Here in Spain everybody has it easy because, unlike in England, a release clause exists," Perez told Spanish outlet Cadena Cope. "If you want to sign a player, you pay his buyout clause and get him.

"In the case of Cristiano, it's €1 billion. If they don't pay that, they don't want him. Whenever I've wanted a player, I've gone for him paying the release clause."

Perez isn't lying.
In the last four years, Gareth Bale (£86 million), James Rodriguez (£60 million), Luka Modric (£30 million) and Isco (£23 million) have all migrated to the Santiago Bernabeu. Perez spared no expense. He expects his competition to do the same, but even that won't be enough.
With three years left on Ronaldo's contract, Perez says any transfer until then is out of the question.
"It's just impossible," he said. "He is our most emblematic player, the best player in the world. It doesn't enter our mind to sell him.
"Of course I like [Barcelona's Lionel] Messi, but I prefer Cristiano Ronaldo a lot more."
Ronaldo is yet to open his season account through two matches, but will have the opportunity to do so on Saturday when Madrid visit Espanyol.
