Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Metta World Peace Close To Signing One-Year Deal [VIDEO]

The Lakers are close to signing another piece to the championship puzzle. The 2010 championship puzzle, that is.

Los Angeles is close to signing a one-year deal with forward Metta World Peace, who was a member of the last Lakers' title team in 2010, Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted Wednesday.

It was the then-named Ron Artest's heroics in Game 7, scoring 20 points with five rebounds and five steals in 46 minutes, against the Celtics that helped L.A. repeat as world champions. The Los Angeles Times' Eric Pincus tweeted that World Peace would take on the role as mentor for current Lakers power forward Julius Randle.

World Peace played four seasons with the Lakers before the team used its amnesty clause to waive him in 2013. He signed with the Knicks, playing 29 games before asking for the team to buy out his contract, which it did in 2014.

World Peace, who turns 36 in November, is a 17-year NBA veteran. He has played for six franchises during his career, including the Bulls, Pacers, Kings, Rockets, Lakers and Knicks. He averaged 24.6 points per game in 2004-05 with the Pacers, his highest scoring output during his career.

His best years, from an offensive standpoint, came when he played for the Kings from 2005-06 through 2007-08, when he averaged 18.9 points per game.

According to lakersnation.com, World Peace played in both China and Italy while plotting a return to the NBA.
