Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball spoke about the controversy surrounding his recent comment which prompted a $100,000 fine from the NBA. The league said the remark made during a postgame interview was "offensive and derogatory". Ball said he didn't mean to offend anyone, in Sunday's press conference.
The incident happened when the Hornets defeated the Milwaukee Bucks in a narrow 115-114 match. The 23-year-old point guard used an anti-gay slur to describe their plan to save the day on defense during Giannis Antetokounmpo's final play.
How the Charlotte Hornets Handled Ball's Latest Issue
According to the Associated Press, Hornet's Coach Charles Lee said he indeed held a conversation with Ball. LaMelo has been very apologetic for what he had recently done.
"As an organization, that is obviously not something we condone," Lee said. "Our standards and what is required of our players in the environment we create is really important to us."
Lee added that Ball acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and committed to learning from the experience. "He told me, 'I'm going to be better,' and we'll ensure he follows through on that promise."

Who's Ball Outside the Controversy?
Without all the controversy, Ball played well enough on the court. He had 31 points and 12 assists as the Hornets fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers 128-114 on Sunday. According to ESPN, Ball was important to his team after late free throws sealed the win for the Hornets over Milwaukee.
Ball, who is entering his fifth season in the NBA, has been averaging 29.6 points, 6.3 assists, and 5.3 rebounds per game. A former Rookie of the Year and a current All-Star, Ball is one of the league's most dynamic players of this generation.
Moving forward, Ball assures that he will rebuild that trust for both his teammates and the organization.
As for Lee, everybody makes mistakes and this is how someone grows and learns since they define the character of a person.
"We all make mistakes," Lee said. "But it's how you grow and learn from them that defines your character."
A year from this date, the NBA urged LaMelo Ball to cover his tattoo. Apparently, the league does not allow any players to have any tattoos featuring any commercial logos.
