Floyd Mayweather Jr. is focused on beating Saul "Canelo" Alvarez on September 14th, but his father Floyd Sr. already has designs on a possible opponent following Alvarez.
Floyd Sr. took shots recently at Amir "King" Khan, a fleet-fisted volume puncher trying to get his career on track after losses to Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson caused his star to fade.
"If there's one fighter that I want Floyd to whip his [expletive], that's Amir Khan...he ain't got nothing to be brash about. He's no outstanding fighter...as long as he stays here, he's going to keep getting his [expletive] whipped," Floyd Sr. said.
Khan has his own hands full with an upcoming December 7th bout with Devon Alexander in Dubai. Khan is on his way toward restoring his luster, having won his last two fights against Carlos Molina and Julio Diaz. He is hoping those last two victories, plus a win over Alexander will propel him to bigger fights.
"It's all about moving to that big fight against Mayweather," Khan said. "Hopefully getting this win against Alexander will get me into that fight."
Floyd Sr., however, doesn't think Khan will even get that far. "To be honest, I don't think he [Khan] will win it [Devon Alexander fight]...I think Devon Alexander is going to shut him down."
Floyd Sr. is apparently angry at Khan's confidence that he's such a great matchup for Mayweather Jr., and that he believes he can dethrone "Money" May.
"When we are young the dream is to be world champion and now the dream is to fight and beat Floyd Mayweather," Khan said. "Once you beat Floyd Mayweather you become pound-for-pound and that's what everyone aims for. But you have to be in that weight division to be noticed. Everywhere I've been going people ask me when I'm fighting Floyd. Maybe I got knocked out or didn't perform well in some fights, but my style would be exciting to watch against him."
