Notching a perfect game in bowling is a very rare feat, but Hakim Emmanuel took it to another level when he bowled three straight 300s for a 900 series.
According to Bowl.com, Emmanuel, a 38-year-old from Stoughton, Mass., rolled 36 consecutive strikes last Thursday to become just the 27th person to accomplish a 900 series and be recognized by the United States Bowling Congress.
After completing two straight perfect games, reality started to set in for Emmanuel.
"Toward the end of the second 300, in the back of my mind, I was wondering if it was real and if I could do it again. People stopped bowling as I entered the 10th frame of the last game, and I just reminded myself that I'd made it that far, so throw another good shot and see what happens."
Emmanuel did just that, throwing his 36th strike and he was then mobbed by the witnesses and fellow Thursday night bowlers after accomplishing an unbelievable feat.
Emmanuel, a right-handed bowler, threw the three straight perfect games as part of the Patriots Doubles league at Westgate Lanes in Brockton, Mass.
The bowler told the site that he has been bowling competitively since he was 15, but the closest he ever came to a 300 was 290 and he hadn't previously eclipsed 800 through a three-game set in his career.
"I've gotten close before, but I've never gotten that elusive 300," he said. "The first one [Thursday] was one of those moments I'll never forget. After that, I just told myself to stay in the game and stay focused."
Even after the last pin dropped and he was mobbed by fellow bowlers, it took a while for reality to set in on Emmanuel.
"I've always stayed in the game and always wanted to excel," he said. "This is a feeling that's incredible and something I may never feel again. It was so surreal, and I had to pinch myself to believe it was true. I'm still speechless."
