If Carlo Ancelotti is to be believed, Real Madrid are not interested in Paul Pogba. Not at the moment at least. The Madrid boss was complimentary of the 21-year-old, but admitted now is not the time to acquire his services.
Manchester United No Longer Target Mats Hummels
"Paul Pogba is a great player and could play wherever he wants," Ancelotti told the Spanish press (via AS). "But we are not interested in him at the moment."
Giuseppe Marotta, however, tells a different story. The Juventus general director claimed that Real Madrid are interested in signing the French starlet, accusing Ancelotti of telling "white lies."
"Ancelotti asked me some questions about Pogba," he said to Sky Italia (via Daily Mail). "He says he's not interested? Well, that's a white lie. I'm sure he has his reasons to say it's not true."
It's a case of he said, he said.
Assuming Ancelotti is true to his word, there are a plethora of clubs willing to spend the necessary funds to land Pogba. Chief among them is Chelsea. According to the Daily Express (via Goal Transfer Talk), the Blues hope to beat Manchester United and Real Madrid in signing the Juventus midfielder. The club is lining up a player-plus-cash deal worth over £40 million.
Per the report, John Obi Mikel and Ramires are among those said to be offered in exchange.
Just don't expect anything to transpire in the near future. Juventus extended Pogba's contract through 2019 and all signs point to his services remaining in Turin until the 2016 Euro Cup.
