Tim Tebow: Unemployed QB Still Searching For NFL Gig

Tim Tebow has been portrayed as a very nice man, but that's not doing him any favors in his search for NFL work these days.

Unlike controversial characters like Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, etc., Tebow's widely considered a player of phenomenal character. Despite his perceived moral fortitude, however, his poor passing statistics and rabid fan base have conspired to derail a career that just two years ago looked quite promising.

When he led the Denver Broncos to the 2011 postseason, and engineered an upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger words like "grit" and "winner" were used to describe Tebow. Now, his name is mixed in with words like "circus."

Many inside the NFL and fans on the outside are divided as to whether winning consistently with Tebow is viable. In his standout 2011 season, Tebow completed just 46.5 percent of his passes. He connected on 126 of 247 throws, tossing 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

He had a low completion percentage but showed surprising touch at times on deep balls; of the 12 passing touchdowns Tebow threw in 2011, five were 25 yards or longer. In the playoff win against Pittsburgh, Tebow won the game in overtime by launching an 80-yard strike to Demariyus Thomas on the first play in the extra period.

He was traded that offseason to the Jets after Denver signed Peyton Manning, and the Jets failed to use Tebow in the same way Denver did. Rather than build a heavy ground attack centered around Tebow under center the whole time, they attempted to run a traditional offense with Mark Sanchez with Tebow's running packages mixed in.

The result was an utter failure, and Tebow's reputation as a viable quarterback was left in tatters. The Jets had one of the NFL's worst passing offenses and Sanchez was eventually benched. When head coach Rex Ryan opted for former seventh-round pick Greg McElroy over Tebow, it may have been a death knell for his career as an NFL signal-caller.
