The Chicago Cubs (20-30) and Chicago White Sox (24-25) will pick up their rivalry today at 2:20 p.m. at Wrigley Field after last night's game was rained out after two innings. Today's game can be live streamed for free by clicking this link; Cubs fans can listen to the game by tuning in to WGN 720, while White Sox fans can hear their own broadcast on WSCR 670.
The Cubs are looking to win their third consecutive game, and second straight against their in-city rival with Scott Feldman (4-4, 2.80 ERA) on the mound. Feldman's hot start to the season has been both surprising and quiet.
Last season Feldman was a less-than-pedestrian 6-11 with a 5.09 ERA and 1.38 WHIP. That's where the surprise comes from. His 4-4 record also seems ordinary, hiding his career-high strikeouts per nine innings (7.24) and 75.2 percent strand rate. Advanced metrics portend a return trip to Earth for Feldman, largely due to his low batting average on balls in play (BABIP), but the Cubs are hoping the good times can last for at least one more start.
The White Sox will send John Danks (0-0 4.50 ERA) to the mound in his second start since returning from shoulder surgery to repair a torn capsule and remove debris in his rotator cuff and biceps. On Friday, he pitched against the Miami Marlins, going six innings and giving up three runs.
"It was a good first one," said Danks. "I did as much as I had hoped to do." White Sox manager Robin Ventura commented on Danks' first start of 2013 as well. "The best part was his command and keeping everything in check and doing everything he needed to do. He was getting people to swing and miss. It's what you would expect of him coming back and being at full strength."
