John Cena Neck Injury Update: [VIDEO] Youtube

WWE Champion John Cena's "Last Man Standing" bout with Ryback at WWE Extreme Rules Sunday night ended in a no contest, after Cena was speared through a wall near the staging area where the wrestlers' pyrotechnics shows occur.

Following the match, Cena was taken backstage on a stretcher with an apparent neck injury. A short while ago, Wrestlezone.com reported that Cena's injury was not an intentional attempt to write Cena out of upcoming storylines.

The WWE is dealing with injuries to popular superstars CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler, and has relied on part-time stars The Rock, Undertaker Brock Lesnar and Triple H to participate in pay-per-views. An injury to Cena would seriously test the depth of the WWE roster in ways that the company likely does not want to be tested.

The match itself ended in a no constest, with neither Cena nor Ryback able to rise to his feet before the referee counted to ten. The no contest allowed Cena to retain his title. Ryback eventually walked off under his own power, while Cena was fitted with a neck brace and carted off. The WWE has not made any comment on the condition of either wrestler, but according to WWE.com, Cena removed his neck brace and refused medical attention backstage.

During the broadcast, Jerry "The King" Lawler, a longtime WWE performer and announcer said, "We realize that it's the WWE Extreme Rules, which is the name of the Pay-per-view, but this time it has gone too far."
