The wait is over to see where Canadian high school basketball star Andrew Wiggins will play college ball; according to reports Wiggins has selected Kansas University to be his home for at least the next year.
Wiggins, who leapfrogged Jabari Parker as the top high school recruit in the 2013 class, was said to be deciding between the Kentucky Wildcats, University of North Carolina Tar Heels, Florida State Seminoles, and the Kansas Jayhawks before making his decision earlier today.
Both of Wiggins' parents attended Florida State, while Kentucky has offered the best track record recently of bringing in freshmen, having great success, and laying the groundwork for high selections. Two seasons ago, Kentucky teammates Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist were the first two overall picks.
Kansas does have a near-connection with Wiggins; his brother Nick plays at Wichita State, best-known for its 2013 Final Four run and near-upset of eventual champion Louisville. Wiggins will be a welcome addition to the Jayhawks, who are losing their entire starting five from the past season.
Wiggins is joining two five-star recruits, Joel Embiid and Wayne Selden, as well as top-50 recruits Connor Frankamp and Brannen Greene. At six feet, eight inches it is unclear exactly which position Wiggins will play at Kansas. He is known to be able to guard every position on the court, a la LeBron James of NBA fame, with loads of untapped offensive potential.
