Al Michaels' drunken-driving arrest last month has stirred more trouble for the legendary sports broadcaster.
Michaels, 68, formally has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI in connection with his April 19 arrest in Santa Monica, Calif., according to TMZ.com.
If convicted, Michaels faces jail time. TMZ.com is reporting that the sentence could be six months in jail plus a $1,000 fine. RadarOnline.com says the sentence could be up to one year.
Michaels, currently the play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football," was pulled over at about 9:30 p.m., on April 19, in which DUI checkpoint officers watched as he made an illegal U-turn, according to media reports.
His blood-alcohol level was .08, the legal limit in California. He was booked for suspicion of DUI and held for about five hours before being released on his own recognizance, Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis told The Associated Press following the incident.
"We are aware of the situation and we've been in contact with Al," Greg Hughes, a spokesman for NBC Sports, told The AP after the arrest. "We have no further comment at this time."
RadarOnline.com added that the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office officially filed the charges earlier in the week. Michaels must appear in court on June 26.
Michaels worked for ABC Sports for almost 30 years before moving to NBC in 2007. On Tuesday, he earned an Emmy for Outstanding Sports Personality in the play-by-play category - his seventh career Emmy.
"Sunday Night Football" also earned an Emmy, the show's fifth for Outstanding Live Sports Series.
In 2012, Michaels earned the Vin Scully Lifetime Achievement Award in Sports Broadcasting.
Michaels also is well-known in sports broadcasting for his play-by-play duties of the U.S.-Soviet Union hockey game -- the "Miracle on Ice" -- at the 1980 Winter Olympics and Game 3 of the 1989 World Series that was interrupted by an earthquake.
