Tonight at 7 p.m. ET, the New Jersey Devils (0-0-0) and Philadelphia Flyers (0-1-0, 0 points) faceoff live from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The game can be live streamed here. New Jersey fans can hear all of the hard-hitting action by adjusting their radios to 101.9 FM The Fan while Philadelphia fans can do the same on 97.5 The Fanatic.
New Jersey kicks off its 2014-15 campaign and will look to bounce back from a 2013-14 season that saw them go 35-29-18 to finish with 86 points and sixth in the Metropolitan Division.
It marked the second consecutive year the Devils missed the playoffs since going to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2012.
Key offseason additions for the Devils include Mike Cammalleri and Martin Havlat while Martin Brodeur will not suit up for the team in net this season as Cory Schneider now has the reins to the No. 1 goaltending job.
Schneider is excited to take over the goaltending duties after going 16-15-12 with a 1.97 goals-against average and .921 save percentage. Schneider enters a season as the No. 1 goalie for the first time in his career.
"After the way last season ended, none of us was too pleased and I think this year, especially for me personally, it kind of begins a new chapter," Schneider told Northjersey.com. "Hopefully, it will be a successful one for this team and for myself."
Philadelphia will be playing in its home opener after dropping their Opening Night game 2-1 to the Boston Bruins on Monday. Sean Couturier was the lone goal-scorer for the Flyers in the loss while backstop Steve Mason was credited with 31 saves and yielded two goals.
"We were just a little bit too much on our heels," coach Craig Berube told NHL.com after Monday's defeat.
Captain Claude Giroux played over 20 minutes Monday after missing six preseason games with an injury. Giroux led the Flyers with 86 points last season off of 28 goals and 58 assists while Jaromir Jagr paced the Devils with 67 points off of 24 markers and 43 helpers.
The Devils open up their 2014-15 campaign while the Flyers search for their first win of the season after a tough loss when these Metropolitan Division rivals take the ice tonight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
