The Dodgers were eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS Tuesday night with a 3-2 defeat and Beckett made his announcement, citing injuries as the reason for his departure from baseball.

"I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch at this point in my life," Beckett told MLB.com about the torn labrum he has in his left hip.

Beckett, 34, will undergo surgery to repair his injuries, but he will opt not to go through the rehab needed to return to the mound. Beckett had three separate disabled list stints this season due to the ailment and was coming off of a shoulder surgery entering the 2014 campaign.

Beckett was shut down for the season in September and watched from the sidelines as the Dodgers won their second straight NL West Division crown with a 94-68 record before being bounced from the playoffs in four games.

"At some point, you decide, 'Is this really worth trying to get myself ready for another season when you know the stuff that goes into it,'" he said last month, according to ESPN. "It's not the pitching part that bothers you. I probably felt best on the days I pitched. It's the other days leading up to it."

A member of Los Angeles since an August 2012 trade from the Boston Red Sox, Beckett went 6-6 with a 2.88 ERA in 20 games with the Dodgers in 2014 and threw a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 25.

Beckett will close out his career with a 138-106 record in 332 starts to go along with a 3.88 ERA, 1.232 WHIP and 1,901 strikeouts in 14 seasons with the Florida (Miami) Marlins, Red Sox and Dodgers.

Beckett is a two-time World Series Champion, won the World Series MVP in 2003, and is a three-time MLB All-Star.
