After months of rumors surrounding Steve "Sting" Borden possibly fighting his first match with the WWE -- and likely last of his career, -- there are rumors going around that he could appear on WWE television as soon as January to build toward a WrestleMania 31 bout.
'Stone Cold' Steve Austin Confirms Plan For WWE Comeback
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Reddit user MetsFan4Ever, who has broken WWE stories in the past and is reportedly a verified insider, said that Sting will appear on WWE television in January to finally make his debut on the road to WrestleMania 31 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on March 29, 2015.
This should be taken merely as rumor, but the user has had many of inside stories correct in the past, including the release of JTG before it was even announced and the news that former WWE Superstar CM Punk and WWE Diva AJ Lee were married in June.
Roman Reigns Provides Injury Update, Hypes RAW
On the other hand, the user has also gotten some things wrong as they started the rumor that Lee was pregnant, which wasn't true, and also speculated that the Bella twins will battle in a Hell in a Cell match on Oct. 26 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, which still could happen, but seems farfetched.
The WWE Universe has been anticipating a match for Sting ever since word broke that he signed on to be a part of WWE 2K15 and inked merchandise deals with the company.
While that has all happened, Sting has reportedly still not signed a talent contract to wrestle a match despite being in talks with the company for several months and reportedly meeting Vince McMahon during SummerSlam weekend in mid-August.
Sting has been the one former WCW main event Superstar that McMahon has yet to sign to have a match in the WWE.
It appeared as though Sting vs. The Undertaker would happen at April 6 at WrestleMania XXX from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, but the WWE opted to have Brock Lesnar face 'Taker instead.
Lesnar subsequently defeated Undertaker to end The Streak and 'Taker was also injured in the process, putting his career up in the air
Sting said he would still like to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31 even without The Streak, though it's unknown if the WWE will go that route or if Undertaker will return for one more match with Sting in an Icon vs. Icon buildup.
For what it's worth, The Undertaker reportedly told fans at a charity run last weekend that he was leaning toward returning for the Show of Shows in 2015.
It appears as though the WWE could be prepared for Sting to make an appearance in January and build toward a match at WrestleMania 31.
