Phillies Reds Game Suspended Due To Rain: Scoreless Game Suspended In Ninth Inning, Will Resume Wednesday At 5:30 P.M.

Heavy rain pelted The Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati Tuesday night, and forced a scoreless game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds to be suspended in the ninth inning.

Kyle Kendrick of the Phillies and Homer Bailey of the Reds each refused to give in to the opposing lineup. Kendrick went seven strong innings, surrendering only two hits and two walks while striking out four batters before being lifted for relief pitcher Antonio Bastardo.

Bailey was even better, hurling eight innings of two-hit, shutout ball, while walking none and striking out ten hitters. He was removed for Aroldis Chapman, who pitched the ninth inning and struck out two.

Michael Young and Chase Utley were the only two Phillies to make contact in a productive manner, while Zack Cozart and Ryan Hanigan of the Reds were able to make the same claim.

The Phillies have started to vent frustration over their deep offensive struggles. Philadelphia has scored three or fewer runs in their last five games, and they have received seven straight games in which the starting pitcher has thrown at least six innings of two-run ball. Manager Charlie Manuel said, "We haven't hit on this road trip," Right now, we're hanging on a zero. We'll see if we can beat it tomorrow. It's seven quality starts in a row but at the same time, we need to get them some runs. We've got to get our game together."

Laynce Nix, a Phillies outfielder said, "It is frustrating. We've had chances and we have to come through. It's a long season, so there's going to be times when that happens."

Michael Young is the only Phillies player hitting over .300 this young season (.354) with Chase Utley trailing him at .294. Slugging first baseman Ryan Howard is scuffling along at .241, and he has only hit one home run in 13 games.

This game will resume at 5:30 p.m., and they will play again no earlier than 7:10 p.m.
