A battle for L.A. will get underway tonight at 10:10 p.m. ET as the National League West leading Dodgers (63-49) take on the Angels (66-44) at Dodgers Stadium for the first of two games. Fans can live stream the game online by clicking this link; Dodgers fans can hear the radio broadcast on 570 Fox Sports LA, while Angels fans may do the same on KLAA 830. Fans will be treated to a great pitching matchup tonight as Zack Greinke (12-6, 2.65 ERA) goes for the Dodgers against Garrett Richards (11-4, 2.74 ERA).
The bad news for the Dodgers coming into tonight's matchup is that Greinke experienced calf soreness in his last start. The good news is that despite the soreness, he went eight strong innings and set down 13 Atlanta Braves on strikes.
"My calf got a little sore, similar to spring training, but not to the same level," Greinke said. "Sore the first couple of innings and got better as the game went on."
Greinke's having one of the best seasons of his career, but he'll be facing a breakout star in Richards. Prior to 2014, Richards' best season was a 7-8 campaign in which he posted a 4.16 ERA, which was last season. From last season to this one, his strikeout-per-nine rate has leapt from 6.3 to 8.9, his WHIP dove from 1.34 to 1.03, and he's giving up nearly three fewer hits per nine innings.
Richards has struggled in his last two outings, however, going 0-2 with a 5.54 ERA against the Orioles and Tigers.
