It was revealed earlier this month that Steve "Sting" Borden is now officially a member of the WWE family, and the former WCW and TNA icon recently made his first public appearance for the WWE at Comic Con in San Diego Thursday.
Speculation On Rey Mysterio Looking To Get Out Of WWE Contract
The company posted a video with Sting in his classic black and white face paint as a surprise guest on the WWE's Mattel panel.
Other WWE personalities on the panel included Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, announcer Michael Cole, manager Paul Heyman and former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, who is currently injured with no timetable for a return to the ring.
WWE Rumors: Nikki Bella Heel Turn Could Be Coming
The WWE revealed on the July 14 episode of Monday Night RAW that Sting will be a playable character in the upcoming WWE 2K15 video game that comes out in October for those who pre-order the video game. Sting had teased via Twitter that something big would happen on July 14, and it turned out to be the reveal.
Sting will be a playable character and he is available as the "black and white" and "surfer" Sting for those who pre-order the game. It has since been speculated that Sting may join the WWE and have one more match now that he is officially a part of the family.
It was rumored that Sting would face The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX this past April, but the WWE dragged its feet in signing him and considered it a 'low-priority'. The WWE then decided to have Brock Lesnar face The Undertaker and had him win the match, ending The Streak of 'Taker and injuring him in the process, casting some doubt on the future of his in-ring career.
It is possible that The Undertaker will retire following the end of The Streak and his injuries, but Sting remains hopeful that both wrestling legends will have the final match of their respective careers against each other sometime soon.
There have been rumors that Sting will wrestle at WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015 due to his California ties in what is likely to be his last match, and he might even be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Sting said recently in an interview with Grantland.
"Absolutely. I would love to have that match," Sting said about facing The Undertaker." I think for wrestling fans it's a dream match, but really it's been a dream match of mine for a long time, as well. I know that The Streak was taken away by Brock Lesnar at this last WrestleMania, but I hope [Undertaker]'s not done. I don't believe he is. And if he is going to be around, I'm hoping for an opportunity."
Sting is now an official part of the family and a lot can happen between now and WrestleMania 31, but he made a surprise appearance on the company's behalf Thursday afternoon.
