The status of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is up in the air after champion Daniel Bryan revealed that he had a minor broken neck and would miss time, but the WWE is set to make an announcement regarding the belt this Monday.
WWE SmackDown Spoilers For Friday
The WWE announced on Main Event that the company will announce the status of the championship on Monday Night RAW, where they will either decide to keep the belt on Bryan and have an absent champion or strip Bryan of the belt in order to crown a new champion.
Bryan is slated to undergo neck surgery on Thursday to repair a broken neck that he suffered from years of wear and tear due to the way that he wrestles and performs in-ring. It was said that it wasn't one certain instance that caused Bryan to sustain the injury, rather it was years of punishment to his neck.
Bryan is slated to be sidelined for 6-8 weeks with the likely timetable for his return being SummerSlam on Aug. 17. The WWE now faces the decision of whether or not to keep him as its champion and go through the Payback, Money in the Bank and Battleground pay-per-views without their world champion or to crown a new champion in Bryan's absence.
The WWE was planning on having Kane take on Bryan in a Buried Alive match for the title in a rematch from the Extreme Rules pay-per-view on May 4 that saw Bryan pick up the victory in an Extreme Rules match.
It was originally reported that the WWE was planning on keeping the title around Bryan's waist, but plans could have changed and could still change by Monday.
Monday's RAW takes place from London and the future of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be determined.
