Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham has been jailed on domestic abuse charges after an apparent skirmish with his girlfriend.
According to CBSSports.com, Cunningham was taken into custody early Thursday morning, shortly after he returned home following the T-Wolves 102-88 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Cunningham played 10 minutes, scoring five points and adding three rebounds.
Hennepin County Jail records indicate Cunningham was booked just after 6:00 a.m. by Medina Police. The Timberwolves have since released a statement, acknowledging Cunningham's arrest and adding the veteran forward will not travel with the team for its Friday night game in Miami.
"We are aware of the matter involving Dante Cunningham and are in the process of gathering more information," the team said in a statement. "Dante will not be traveling with the team to Miami this afternoon. The Minnesota Timberwolves organization takes the matter very seriously and does not condone the type of behavior that is associated with this situation. However, we need to let the legal process run its course, and will have further comment at the appropriate time."
The 26-year-old Cunningham will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. He earned $2.1 million this season after the Timberwolves exercised the team option on his contract.
