NFL rumors: Mark Sanchez close to signing with St. Louis Rams? [VIDEO]

The St. Louis Rams appear to leading the pack in landing former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez as a backup to projected starter Sam Bradford.

"I'd say that there is interest," Rams coach Jeff Fisher told CBSSports.com. "I can't say how much. But there certainly would be interest. I don't have a backup with experience on the roster right now.''

Sanchez is facing the reality that most teams now view him in that way. The Rams have Sam Bradford, who suffered a torn ACL in October, and inexperienced as their projected starter.

The Jets played the entire 2013 season without Sanchez after he suffered a preseason shoulder injury, effectively ending his Jets career and marking the Geno Smith era in New York City.

Sanchez has a history with Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who served in that same capacity with the Jets during Sanchez's first two seasons.

"Brian had a good relationship with Mark,'' Fisher told CBS Sports. "He's just learning. He's been to the AFC Championship game a couple of times, so he's been there.''
