Scoring Machine Ben Gordon Sets His Goal In Making An NBA Comeback, Sees Himself Playing For Cleveland

Less than a month ago, the Texas Legends claimed Ben Gordon off waivers to bolster their NBA D-League campaign. Now, the former Sixth Man of the Year recipient is starting to get much attention as he keeps his eyes on the prize.

In an interview posted by Bleacher Report, the 33-year old Ben Gordon is grinding it out at the D-League, showing everybody that he still got it. An explosive scorer since his college career, he is proving his critics wrong, shooting the lights out like he's been doing his entire life.

According to NBA D-League stats, Gordon is averaging 16.6 points, 2 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 8 games played with the team. The Legends had announced that they have signed the former University of Connecticut Huskies' 6-foot-3 guard through their official release posted at their homepage at the D-League site.

Gordon was Chicago Bulls' 3rd overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, named just behind top pick Dwight Howard and center Emeka Okafor. He spent his first 5 years with the Bulls, posting an average of 18.6 points, including his career-high 48 points in 2007 against the Milwaukee Bucks, before testing the free agent market.

During his stint with the Bulls, Ben Gordon was named as the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2004-2005 season, which is the first rookie to bag the award. Gordon is also the first recipient of the said award from the Chicago Bulls since the 1995-1996 season, where Croatian Toni Kukoc achieved the feat.

"I'm looking at teams that need a playmaker like the Cavs," the 11-year NBA veteran told B/R in the interview. "They need somebody who can create their own offense or make play for someone else." Cleveland Cavaliers, as publicized in the media, is looking for a point guard as far as LeBron James is concerned.

In 2009, Ben Gordon agreed to sign a 5-year deal with the Detroit Pistons and embraced his off-the-bench role before being shipped to Charlotte Bobcats in 2012. After two years with Charlotte, Gordon was waived in 2014 but was signed by Orlando Magic for a 2-year $9 million pact.

Ben Gordon was signed by the Golden State Warriors in 2015 but was, again, waived after playing two games in the training camp.
