The blockbuster game between the defending champs Kansas City Chiefs and the retooled New York Jets during Week 4 did not disappoint, but it could've been better if not for a late game call that many thought decided the match.
The Chiefs ended up winning 23-20, despite the Jets not having their star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is currently out indefinitely with an ankle injury.
The game could've gone the other way for the Chiefs, but many believe a late holding call favored the reigning champions.
Referee Frank Steratore blew his whistle on cornerback Sauce Gardner during a third-and-20 play late in the fourth quarter for what he thought was an illegal hold on Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
The ball returned to Patrick Mahomes, who capitalized on the call to help his team get away with a slim victory.
Tight end Travis Kelce benefitted from the call but was not amused with how the game was decided. Appearing in his brother's podcast and YouTube show New Heights, he thought the referee missed an opportunity to let the players decide the outcome.
"I do not like when officials call questionable things at the end of games," Jason said.
"I'm with you on that. I think, let the guys play through," Travis replied.
Always a close call
Travis also believes it was a precarious situation and that the hold call was controversial.
"You gotta play that borderline of being physical and playing smart in a situation like that, because those calls are detrimental if you get hit with them."
