The Houston Texans secured their first victory of the season in a stunning upset against the Jacksonville Jaguars, 37-17, on the road at the TIAA Bank Field on Sunday, September 24.
Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud led the way for the Texans while achieving a historic milestone.
The former Ohio State player became the first quarterback in NFL history to put up a minimum of 900 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, and zero interceptions in his first three career starts, according to research by ESPN Stats & Information.
"I have great guys around me. Nothing I can do without those guys up front battling, the receiver running the right route at the right depth, [offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik] calling the right plays at the right time," Stroud said.
Stroud has now thrown 121 consecutive pass attempts without an interception through three games, setting a new NFL rookie record for this feat and surpassing the previous record held by Warren Moon with 103 in 1984.
The 21-year-old completed 20 of 30 passes in the game, accumulating 280 yards and tossing two touchdowns while rushing the ball three times for 14 yards.
Rookie quarterback receives praise
Tight end Brevin Jordan, who secured a touchdown pass in the victory, showered compliments on his talented teammate.
"We drafted the right guy. Man, he's a leader. He's a phenomenal player and a phenomenal guy with God-given talent. Dude, he's unbelievable," the 23-year-old said.
