Aaron Rodgers saw his debut with the New York Jets start on the wrong foot, and now questions are in the air on what is in store for the 39-year-old play-caller.
Rodgers suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in the Jets tiff with the Buffalo Bills. Even with the four-time NFL MVP forced out, New York still pulled off an overtime win, 22-16.
The 10-time Pro Bowler made his first public comments via Instagram since the unfortunate season-ending injury. Rodgers thanked well-wishers and admitted that he is heartbroken but vows to rise again, The New York Post reported.
"The night is darkest before the dawn," part of Rodgers' caption read. "And I shall rise yet again. Proud of my guys, 1-0."
The last part of the caption was a bit cryptic and seemingly suggests that Rodgers is not yet done playing NFL ball. Then again, it could mean getting over his serious injury and returning to football, but possibly in a different capacity.
Considering he will turn 40 in December, medical experts and analysts speculate that the one-time Super Bowl champion could end up retiring.
Only Aaron Rodgers knows what's best
But one person who admits he would be shocked if this is the way Rodgers would want to end his NFL career is Jets coach Robert Saleh.
Rather than speculate, Saleh will let Rodgers make that announcement if retirement is indeed coming, NBC News reported.
"As you guys could imagine, he's down. I'll let him answer those questions. I did not get into the future of what he's expecting or what he's thinking," the 44-year-old stated.
