Braves: Ronald Acuña Jr. Makes Home Run-Stolen Bases History Not Seen Since 2007

Ronald Acuña Jr. continues to prove why he is one of the highest-paid outfielders in the league after a historical performance against the Los Angeles Angels.

The Atlanta Braves swept the Halos in three straight games, and the last victory is a lot sweeter, with their franchise player Acuña Jr. smashing records not seen since 2007.

The Venezuelan became only the 12th player to record a 25+ HR, 50+ SB season in the league's history. The last one to put up such numbers was Hanley Ramírez while still with the Miami Marlins in 2007.

What's more impressive is that the 25-year-old accomplished the record in the fewest games at 106.

Acuña's exploits have been huge for the Braves. They have been at the top of the NL East standings, 11.5 games above the second placer Philadelphia Phillies.

Acuña's MVP season

He is also receiving his cake for how he plays this season. Not only was he selected for his fourth All-Star Game appearance, but he is also expected to bag the NL MVP trophy.

Acuña is the runaway favorite to win the top individual plum, according to the latest results of an MLB poll with 42 votes. A distant second is Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers with four votes.

"It's not hard to see why Acuña received near-unanimous support from our voters again. The NL leader with 3.3 bWAR, Acuña is on pace for 32 homers, 70 steals and 140 runs scored with a .331/.402/.563 slash for a Braves club that is tied for the best record in the NL," Thomas Harrigan wrote about his first-place finish.
