The struggling Chicago Bulls got some more bad news following their 98-91 loss Wednesday to the Memphis Grizzlies, as star guard Dwyane Wade suffered what is initially being called a sprained elbow. The 12-time All-Star is scheduled for an MRI Thursday morning.

As reported by Bleacher Report, Dwyane Wade heard his right elbow pop while reaching for a rebound in the third quarter. He went on to return after going to the Chicago Bulls’ locker room, but had to leave the game for good in the fourth quarter. “I knew it was something a little bit more just because of what I heard,” Wade told reporters following the game. “I tried to play through it a little bit until the pain started getting a little bit more excruciating.”

As noted by the Chicago Sun Times, the Chicago Bulls are currently one game out of the eight playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with just 14 games left in the season, and have lost six of their last seven games. Dwyane Wade said he has not had this type of injury before, and admitted that when he asked Jimmy Butler – who suffered a similar injury in 2015 – his response wasn’t encouraging. Butler missed 11 games because of the injury.

The Chicago Bulls cannot afford to miss Dwyane Wade for that long if they were to cling on to any hopes of making the playoffs. While the former Miami Heat star hasn’t been his usual dominant self at 35 years old, he remains a solid contributor, averaging 18.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game in his first season with the Bulls.

The Chicago Bulls (32-36) trail the Detroit Pistons and the Miami Heat (both 33-35) for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls travel to Washington to face the Wizards Friday, before flying to Utah to face the Jazz the following day. There should be an update on Dwyane Wade’s status following the MRI.
