The Washington Wizard's climb atop NBA prominence is marred by a number of disappointments. The Wizards started the NBA season with a 2-8 record and yet the team managed to claw back and is now sitting on the third spot in the tight NBA East playoff race.

According to Washington Post, the Wizards now has the record of most wins over .500 among teams that started an NBA season with a 2-8 win-loss record. With the recent win against the Phoenix Suns, the Washington Wizards is now 15 wins above .500.

The current record for most wins over .500 after a sluggish start was held 2006-07 Toronto Raptors and 1992-93 Boston Celtics. Both teams have 14 wins over .500 when the regular season ended after starting the NBA season with a 2-8 record.

The current Washington Wizards team with its 37-16 record is now the second winningest Wizards team in a span of 63 games. The 1979 Bullets, which won the Eastern Conference that year, still holds the record with a 43-20 record in 63 games.

The current winning ways of the Washington Wizards may be attributed to its new coach, Scott Brooks. The coach has been described by Wizards' center Marcin Gortat in an interview with The Ringer as the right fit for their team.

In just his first season as the Washington Wizards coach, Scott Brooks has already transformed a former bottom dwelling team to a possible contender. With the way his players are playing, particularly his scoring duo John Wall and Bradley Beal, it can really be said that the team has already bought in to Scott Brooks' brand of basketball.

With its young core, the Washington Wizards has a promising team moving forward. They may not win it all this season but the team's continued improvement may just get them there real soon.
